Small Talk #1 (Feb 2002)
A MESSAGE FROM JACQUELYN SMALL, Founding Director of Eupsychia Institute:

Almost daily of late I'm reminded of the English playwright Christopher Fry's poignant words:

Thank God our time is now
When wrong comes up to meet us everywhere,
Never to leave us till we take
The longest stride of soul men ever took.
Affairs are now soul-sized.
The enterprise is exploration into God.
Where are you making for?
It takes so many thousand years to wake.
But will you wake for pity's sake?

The world crisis has called us now to develop the powers of the soul, to expand our consciousness and follow the guidance of our higher selves, noticing the urges of our less-developed ego nature who moves so rapidly into fear, imbalanced emotions and the need to control, but never acting from these less-developed partial selves.

Some of you may have sacrificed your true vision and talents early on in life, turning instead to the outer allure of society's entanglements and usual dramas, usually concerning money, sex, greed and power. That budding artist in you, that healer, mystic, poet, speaker, writer, or great adventurer -- all those leadership qualities you demonstrated in grade school, those little awards you won --these were signs of your creativity emerging from the source of your being. Where did You go?

Well now, perhaps, that Self of yours is urging you to come on out and help humankind come to know the joy of being one's Self, fully willing to express your deepest passions and sense of the good, the true and the beautiful.

Today, I meet many of you who are ready to take this next step in the unfolding of our human consciousness -- to cease allowing the outer world to imprison us in fear and lack of self-esteem. We're all being called to go inward to do the psycho-spiritual work required to heal and blossom fully. The journey of the astronaut has taught us much about outer space. Now it's time to take the journey of the "intronaut" and explore our inner space -- where we find the God-within and our true sense of meaning and purpose.

The thirteenth century alchemists spoke of humankind as a "wingless bird" stuck in its alluring conditions for so long it has become too heavy to fly. At some point the wingless bird's soaring spiritual counterpart arrives on the scene, a "winged bird" who has the loftier vista. It lovingly attaches itself to the disempowered one, merging with its nature so it can life it up and lead it back to freedom. Maybe we are all truly waking up.

The soul is this winged bird, and it will teach us how to transcend and transform these dangerous outer conditions. It speaks to you inwardly through symbol, metaphor, allegory and image. So go within and discover the hidden treasures awaiting you within your own inner life. And perhaps, just possibly, we are all going to learn how to fly!

Eupsychia's retreat programs founded in soul-based psychology are designed to take you on your inward journey back to the source of your being, to find what's waiting for you there. our methods are tried and proved through years of experiential work with hundreds of awakening souls. you already have within you all that you need to be whole; we're all just been called now to re-member why we came here and who we truly are.

So join us anytime you can and discover members of your soul family you've always known, waiting to greet you and support your next right step in coming whole! if you've read this far, your new life is already beginning.

In loving service,
Jacquelyn Small
